Harding Finishes Strong in Harding Classic

Sarah Phipps captured her second double-double on the season with 12 kills and 13 digs.

SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding Volleyball team finished the 2008 Harding Classic strong defeating Southwest Baptist 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20) and Texas A&M-Commerce 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17) Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons move to 8-4 on the season.

In the Southwest Baptist match, the Lady Bisons had three players in double-figure kills. Junior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons in with 15. Junior outside hitter Sarah Phipps had 13 kills and 9 digs. Senior middle blocker Shellie Rummer was the other Lady Bison in double figures with 10 kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Emily Tate had 27 digs for Harding.

In the final match against Texas A&M-Commerce, Sarah Phipps captured her second double-double on the season with 12 kills and 13 digs. Manuela Nesheva added 13 kills for the Lady Bisons. Senior setter Leah Tepe had 43 assists in the match.

The Lady Bisons were 2-1 in the Harding Classic.

The Lady Bisons travel to Monticello, Ark. Friday to face Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 3:30 p.m. and Belhaven at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Harding will travel to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. to face the Lady Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville.
